Determine the distortion of an imaging system.
High resolution chrome markings
Transparent glass or white glass
Made to Order
PURPOSE
Grid arrays are used to evaluate distortion in imaging systems. Ideally, the horizontal and vertical lines should remain perfectly perpendicular; any deviation—such as bowing—indicates distortion. These patterns enable software-based correction of lens and sensor distortions. While primarily intended for distortion measurement, the grids are also suitable for calibration, alignment, magnification scaling, focus evaluation, and general image system benchmarking.
CONFIGURATION
PATTERN DESCRIPTION
The pattern consists of multiple grid arrays defined by centre-to-centre line spacing. The following pitch values are included: 1000 µm, 500 µm, 100 µm, 50 µm, 25 µm, and—on the high-resolution version—10 µm.
1000 Grid: 200 µm line, pattern area 30 × 30 mm
500 Grid: 100 µm line, pattern area 25 × 25 mm
100 Grid: 20 µm line, pattern area 20 × 20 mm
50 Grid: 10 µm line, pattern area 15 × 15 mm
25 Grid: 5 µm line, pattern area 10 × 10 mm
10 Grid: 2 µm line, pattern area 5 × 5 mm (HIGH RESOLUTION SLIDE ONLY)
Low-resolution PDF previews of these patterns are available under the DOWNLOAD tab.
MATERIAL
Soda Lime Glass is widely used for test targets due to its balance of optical performance and cost. It offers good surface quality and flatness, with high transmittance from 350 nm upwards. The thermal expansion coefficient is 93 × 10⁻⁷/°C (~10 ppm), and the transmission is 88% across 375–750 nm. Flatness class: 5 µm.
White Diffuser Glass is a semi-opaque soda lime glass with integrated diffusion properties. Unlike coated or laminated alternatives, this is a solid diffuse medium with ~30% transmission, suitable for all orientations. The surfaces are polished to allow near-Lambertian light transmission with some specular reflection. Common applications include uniform illumination, attenuation, and viewing screens. Flatness class: 2 µm (double-sided polished).
Anti-glare spray coatings can be applied on request to reduce surface reflectivity under reflected lighting conditions.
TURNAROUND
Standard production time is 3 working days from receipt of order. Expedited services are available for urgent requirements.
INSPECTION
All photomasks undergo a comprehensive inspection process. Key parameters such as Critical Dimension (CD) and feature uniformity are measured and recorded. High-magnification images (Nikon MM40 at 900×, OGP ZIP 300 at 400×) are stored with production data. For sectors requiring compliance documentation—such as medical or automotive—optional inspection certificates can be included with the order.
Standard: Full inspection performed; no documentation supplied.
Certificate of Conformance: Confirms compliance with internal inspection standards.
Certificate of Measurement: Verifies up to 10 user-specified dimensions within stated tolerances. CAD or marked drawing required. Additional measurements available upon request.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: The standard pattern doesn’t match my requirements. Can a custom version be produced?
A: Yes. While the patterns shown are standard configurations, we can produce custom designs based on your specifications. Please note that pricing and lead times will vary depending on complexity and volume.
Q: What is the typical lead time from order to dispatch?
A: We aim to keep these products in stock for immediate dispatch. However, please allow up to 5 working days depending on order volume and current production workload. For urgent requirements, contact us directly to check availability.
Q: Can you provide a high-resolution image or scaled preview of the pattern?
A: Yes. High-resolution graphic previews can be emailed upon request. Please contact us via Live Support or email to receive sample files.
Q: Are other materials available for this product?
A: Yes. Standard versions are produced using low-reflective chrome on soda lime glass, but we can supply alternatives including quartz, Borofloat®, or other substrates. Masking layers such as aluminium, gold, or ITO can also be specified. Minimum order quantities apply for non-standard materials.
Q: Can the glass be supplied in different thicknesses?
A: Yes, alternate glass thicknesses can be supplied on request, subject to material availability and minimum order quantities.
Q: Can I specify exact tolerances or reference dimensions for inspection?
A: Yes. For customers requiring dimensional validation, we offer Certificate of Measurement services. You will need to supply a CAD file or annotated drawing identifying the features to be measured.
Q: Are these slides reusable or suitable for cleaning?
A: The chrome patterns are durable and can be cleaned with appropriate optical cleaning agents. Avoid abrasive materials. Reuse is possible depending on your application and handling practices.
Q: Is there a minimum order quantity?
A: There is no minimum order for standard stock items. For custom designs or non-standard materials, minimum order quantities will apply.
