SL9 Checkerboard Distortion target on GLASS

PURPOSE

This high-precision checkerboard target is designed for evaluating the Modulation Transfer Function (MTF), distortion, and sharpness of optical systems, including industrial vision cameras, lenses, and stereo imaging setups. The structured grid of alternating dark and clear squares enables accurate geometric calibration, software-based distortion correction, and resolution benchmarking across a range of fields. The slide is suitable for use in both R&D and production environments requiring reliable, repeatable image system evaluation.

CONFIGURATION

• Material: Chrome on Transparent Soda Lime Glass, 1.5 mm thick – available in 3" (75 mm), 5" (125 mm), or 8" (200 mm)
  
  
• Material: Chrome on White Diffuser Glass, 1.25 mm thick – available in 4" (100 mm) or 8" (200 mm)

PATTERN DESCRIPTION

The target features a highly accurate checkerboard grid. The pattern area is always 25 mm smaller than the outer dimensions of the glass plate. Each version differs by the size of individual squares (each square is dark or clear):

• SL9-1: 5.00 mm squares
• SL9-2: 4.00 mm squares
• SL9-3: 2.00 mm squares
• SL9-4: 1.00 mm squares
• SL9-5: 0.50 mm squares
• SL9-6: 0.25 mm squares
• SL9-7: 0.10 mm squares

MATERIAL

Soda Lime Glass is the most common substrate for optical targets, offering reliable transmission from 350 nm upwards. It features high optical quality, a flatness class of 5 µm, thermal expansion of 93 × 10⁻⁷, and 88% transmittance in the 375–750 nm range.

White Diffuser Glass is a semi-opaque version of soda lime glass that diffuses transmitted light evenly. With ~30% transmission and a double-sided polished finish, it provides near-Lambertian characteristics, making it ideal for backlit calibration, screens, or attenuation purposes. Flatness class: 2 µm.

Optional anti-glare spray coatings are available to reduce surface reflections when used in reflected light applications.

INSPECTION

All photomasks undergo a comprehensive inspection process. Key parameters such as Critical Dimension (CD) and feature uniformity are measured and recorded. High-magnification images (Nikon MM40 at 900×, OGP ZIP 300 at 400×) are stored with production data. For sectors requiring compliance documentation—such as medical or automotive—optional inspection certificates can be included with the order.

Standard: Full inspection performed; no documentation supplied.

Certificate of Conformance: Confirms compliance with internal inspection standards.

Certificate of Measurement: One square width and one pitch dimension from each grid size are measured and documented. Additional measurements available on request.
