CALIBRATION PLATE
This precision-engineered calibration plate is designed for machine setup, optical alignment, and positional verification. It features a series of high-accuracy reference dots placed on a 25 mm pitch grid. These patterns enable accurate calibration of motion systems, cameras, and inspection platforms. Each plate is supplied with a corresponding Excel spreadsheet listing nominal positions to support integration with automated analysis systems.
The grid is imaged in a durable, chrome coating suitable for repeated cleaning and stable long-term use. Four target types are included on each plate to support varying resolutions and magnification settings:
COATINGS
Optional white, black, or translucent coatings can be applied using inkjet methods. These may be added to either the front or rear surface depending on use case. Anti-glare coatings are also available to reduce reflectivity under overhead or coaxial illumination.
PRODUCTION
All calibration plates are made to order. Standard lead time is 2–3 weeks. Expedited services are available for urgent requirements.
ACCURACY
The calibration grid is supplied with a measurement spreadsheet and certificate traceable to NIST standards. Each grid is guaranteed to an overall positional accuracy depending on its length, with an individual +/- 0.75 µm non-cumulative across the 25 mm pitch between pattern groups. For larger calibration plates, it may not be practical to measure every position due to the quantity of features in both X and Y axes. We are happy to review your measurement requirements and adapt the inspection scope accordingly.
Dot and crosshair features have an individual size width tolerance of ±3 µm. For calibration methods using edge-to-edge measurements, this tolerance should be included in your analysis. Centre-to-centre measurement is recommended for best consistency. Tighter feature size tolerances can be manufactured on request.
INSPECTION
All plates undergo metrological inspection in a controlled environment. Measurement data is traceable to national standards and verified using calibrated equipment. Each plate is marked with a unique serial number and is supplied with a certificate of conformity, tolerance data, and measured coordinate spreadsheet. Custom inspection scopes, including selective feature verification or long-term stability reporting, are available on request.

FAQ | FAQ's
Q: What tolerances do you work to? A: The calibration grid is supplied with a certificate traceable to NIST standards. Positional accuracy depends on the overall size of the plate. As a general guide, short-range accuracy between adjacent marks on a 25 mm pitch is ±0.5 µm, while full-plate accuracy is typically ±3 µm, referenced to a central zero datum. Specific tolerances are detailed in the inspection report supplied with each unit.
Q: How accurate are the feature sizes? A: The dots and crosshairs have a size tolerance of ±3 µm. If your application relies on edge-to-edge measurements, this tolerance should be included in the overall accuracy assessment. Tighter feature size tolerances can be quoted on request.
Q: Can I request different base materials, such as quartz? A: Yes, alternative substrates including fused silica (quartz) are available. These materials offer improved thermal stability but are significantly more expensive, especially in sizes over 7". Please contact us for pricing and lead time.
Q: I need a custom pattern. Is this possible? A: Yes, we can produce calibration plates based on customer-supplied design files. Custom patterns will affect both cost and lead time. Please send your requirements for evaluation.
Q: Can I use this for autofocus or image alignment calibration? A: Yes, the calibration plate is suitable for autofocus routines, field distortion checks, and alignment verification. Multiple target sizes support use with a range of magnification levels and imaging systems.
Q: Is software included? A: No software is provided. However, a spreadsheet listing all measured positions and tolerances is included with each plate and can be imported into most calibration and vision platforms.
Q: Can I request anti-reflection coatings? A: Yes, optional anti-glare surface coatings are available to reduce reflection under top or coaxial lighting. Coatings can be applied to the front or rear surface as needed.
